Microsoft rolled out a new update to its Office suite to eliminate repetitive update notifications, solve compliance issues and improve the update experience.

From now on, Microsoft 365 apps will receive silent updates while the device is locked or idle.

Microsoft 365 Apps Update Under Lock And Its Benefits

Microsoft 365 Apps Will Receive Silent Updates While Device Is Locked Or Idle

The new feature is called Update Under Lock. It will help IT admins update their existing office applications without disrupting their services.

It is powered by Click-to-Run technology to deliver and update Microsoft Office in a streamlined way.

It will provide multiple benefits to Microsoft users. For example,

Speed and Reliability: The Update Under Lock feature will make the update process significantly faster. It also adds more security to the entire process to eliminate the risk of data loss and the need for data recovery.

Safety: The app will not shut down if it is not safe or there is a scope for data loss. In that case, it will usually be updated.

Automatic Compliance Resolution: Compliance issues can pop up occasionally and halt official work indefinitely until resolved. The new feature brings more flexibility to compliance resolution as it can reach compliance automatically, bringing down risks of increased downtime and promoting seamless work.

No Disruption: The feature does not require users to restart their apps. Therefore, it brings no disturbance to internal users while pushing the updates.

No Admin Control: The feature is stand-alone as it does not require admin intervention.

No Forced Updates: It eliminates the need for suddenly forced updates that many Microsoft users do not prefer.

Saved Progress: Adding more freedom and security to the ongoing work, the Update Under Lock feature saves the current application state precisely as it is before closing them. The user can find the progress untouched by the update and resume work, avoiding threats of lost progress.

Zero Menace of Pop-up Notification: The process will knock out unwanted pop-up notifications about required updates, which often disrupt while working or meeting with your team virtually.

How Does The Update Under Lock Work?

Update Under Lock takes only 4 seconds to update apps. Typically, it will thoroughly assess the progress in Office apps. It will push updates only when it is safe. Also, after applying the update, it will automatically restore the application to its existing state.

The feature will particularly benefit those who tend to lock their device after a day’s work. Before the new update, Office could not update a running application under locked mode.

But now, it can update the application without affecting the status of the ongoing work. Users will find the latest version of the application the next time he opens the application.
