Two southern California companies are coming together with Quest Software’s announcement today that it will acquire backup and recovery specialist BakBone Software for $55 million, according to an article posted on Enterprise Storage Forum. The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of 2011.

Quest plans to integrate BakBone’s backup and recovery software with its own data protection software (including vRanger Pro, Litepeed, Recovery Manager and SharePlex) for Windows applications and Oracle databases.

BakBone’s NetVault backup software includes continuous data protection (CDP), data deduplication, replication, and tape- and disk-based backup.
