Instagram has begun testing a new option for users to switch to a full-Screen feed that combines stories, reels plus posts into a unified display. Moreover, in a full-Screen feed, the video includes a progress bar and the stories come with a frame bar at the end of the display for swiping left to view other posts.

According to Adam Mosseri (Head of Instagram) ‘A more full-screen experience, not only for videos but for photos, might be a more fun and engaging experience.’

Purpose of The Instagram Full-Screen Feed

The full-screen feed was introduced to take over the popular TikTok-style display. But, the new feature was not so loved by Instagram users and even Adam Mosseri announced that the full-screen feed still needs testing and won’t be released soon.

However, Instagram is thinking of releasing this feature with an option for users to switch it on or off. Moreover, this option to toggle the Full-Screen Feed might be appealing to some users, plus can be excellent for people living in countries where TikTok is banned.

Full-Screen Feed Sneak Peek

The above post on Twitter by Radu Oncescu displays how the new function will be incorporated into Instagram’s interface along with other options including ‘Following’ as well as ‘Favorites’. Furthermore, the test revealed that the full-screen feed will have access to the Reels plus discovery tab by using the bottom navigation bar. The different options such as creating a post, crowing messages, and switching accounts are still visible at the top bar.

Meta’s Vision Of Full-Screen Feed

Currently, Instagram’s stories are the key source of revenue plus are more advertisement-friendly when compared to Reels. Much like Meta, the search engine giant Google is even trying to take over TikTok by using YouTube Shorts. Meta’s report for the first quarter, 2022, showcased that Reels make up about 20% of users’ time spent on Instagram, whereas Facebook’s videos make up about 50% of users’ time.

In a video, Adam Mosser also stated that “We’re going to continue to support photos, it’s part of our heritage – I love photos, I know a lot of you out there love photos too. That said, I need to be honest, I do believe that more and more of Instagram is going to become video over time. We see this even if we change nothing.”

This is a wise decision by Instagram as their new Full-Screen Feed will offer users more options for in-app customization as well as provide a unique experience.
