Software-as-a-service (SaaS) hosting company OpSource has added a “pay as you go” cloud storage service to its portfolio with the addition of OpSource Cloud Files, an online backup and archive service.

OpSource Cloud Files pricing starts at $0.15/GB per month for the first 50TB, with volume discounts kicking in as users scale beyond 50TB. OpSource only charges for bandwidth when files are retrieved.

OpSource is offering several different tiers of service for Cloud Files, ranging from the pay-as-you-go subscription model up to a $3,000 monthly subscription that includes administrative support, multiple private networks and additional outgoing bandwidth.

The underpinnings of the cloud storage service is composed of operating software, storage and networking gear from VMware, Microsoft, Red Hat, EMC and Cisco.

The control layer is supplied by OpSource partner Mezeo Software. The Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform is software with REST Web Services APIs for access to storage. Mezeo’s integrated security features include Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption for data in motion and 256-bit AES encryption for data at rest.

Treb Ryan, OpSource’s CEO, says the company’s Cloud Files storage service boasts an element of security and control that some other private cloud offerings lack.

He cites customizable security for firewalls, user-level access controls, the ability to deploy private networks within the OpSource cloud for specific systems, and standard in-flight and at-rest data encryption as enterprise-class controls unique to Cloud Files.
