Cleversafe beefs up dsNet hardware for cloud deployments

By Kevin Komiega

-- Cleversafe has refreshed its Dispersed Storage Network (dsNet) Accesser appliances and Slicestor Storage Servers to include bigger disk drives, additional connectivity options and an integrated rack system, the dsNet Cabinet 2200.

Cleversafe's dsNet platform disperses data segments to multiple storage nodes in different geographical locations. A dsNet is comprised of three appliance-based components – a Slicestor storage appliance, Accesser storage router, and a management appliance.

The Slicestor storage appliances now support 2TB drives and come with a USB flash drive that houses the Cleversafe operating system. With 2TB drives, the Slicestor 2100 servers now offer 8TB of capacity per box, while the new 2200 servers provide 24TB of capacity.

In addition, Cleversafe upgraded its dsNet Accesser 2100 appliance with a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) connectivity option. The Accesser functions as a storage router and divides data into segments using Information Dispersal Algorithms (IDAs).

Cleversafe is also packaging its products for users looking for a pre-racked system. The new dsNet Cabinet 2200 is comprised of 18 Slicestor servers, two Accesser appliances, one dsNet Manager appliance, a 48-port multi-layer Ethernet switch, and 432TB of storage capacity for nearline and archive data.

The dsNet Cabinet 2200 also includes the Omnience Storage Management software, a browser-based application that provides provisioning, fault management and performance monitoring tools.

Pricing for the dsNet Cabinet 2200 is approximately $430,000.
