Bocada has completed its transition from a backup reporting software maker to a full-fledged Data Protection Service Management (DPSM) vendor with the debut of Bocada Prism, a workflow-driven application that goes beyond backup reporting.
Prism uses the same agent-less data collection engine found in the company’s previous flagship product, Bocada Enterprise, but builds on that engine by presenting a path to error resolution.
Prism also includes Health Check, Problem Management, SLA Management, and Policy Management modules and a searchable Knowledge Base.
Bocada’s president and CEO, Nancy Hurley, says the software takes an IT service management (ITSM) model and applies it to data protection.
“Prism provides a service management-oriented approach to data protection to determine how errors in an environment affect SLAs and walks users through the next steps to resolution,” says Hurley.
Hurley says Prism is designed for managed service providers (MSPs), software-as-a-service (SaaS), or cloud services vendors offering backup and data protection services.
Bocada is also targeting the software at IT organizations that have adopted or plan to adopt ITSM initiatives, are concerned about delivering against SLAs, or need chargeback capabilities.
The company expects Prism to replace Bocada Enterprise this year, with an upgrade path for its installed base of customers expected by mid-2010.
