Exabyte debuts mirroring solutions

Exabyte`s new mirroring configurations enable users to make multiple copies of data in the same amount of time it takes to make a single copy. The solutions use Exabyte`s Mammoth drives and SCSI interconnects. The M10 is a stand-alone mirroring controller that connects one host to two Mammoth drives; the M12 includes drives, controller, and hardware for 19-inch or stand-alone mounting.

Both products offer several modes of operation. Mirror mode creates two identical backup tapes for every backup operation; independent mode allows each drive to be addressed independently by the host; and copy mode makes duplicate copies of source tapes with no host interaction. The M10 starts at $3,995; the M12, at $8,995.
