Seagate announces backup software

Last month, Seagate Software announced the availability of its RAIDirector tape backup suite. When used in conjunction with Seagate Backup Exec for Windows NT, RAIDirector is designed to improve backup performance and increase fault tolerance by creating a RAID-like storage subsystem linking SCSI tape drives.

The array appears as a single device to Backup Exec, but with several times the capacity, performance and fault tolerance of a single drive. RAIDirector provides striping, mirroring, and striping with parity through RAID 0, 1, and 3. RAIDirector includes a graphical management console and the ability to perform online copy, compare, erase and eject operations. It is compatible with DLT, DAT, and 8mm tape devices and can scale up to eight drives per array with 64 drives per server. RAIDirector is available for $995.
