WhatsApp users in India can now experience end-to-end shopping via JioMart. Within the WhatsApp app, users can now explore the entire catalog, send items to their shopping cart, and execute purchases.

As Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, states: “This is our first-ever end-to-end shopping experience on WhatsApp — people can now buy groceries from JioMart right in a chat.”

Meta’s Vision

The company considers business messaging a major revenue source for WhatsApp in the near future.

Zuckerberg also said, “Business messaging is an area with real momentum, and chat-based experiences like this will be the go-to way people and businesses communicate in the years to come.”

Much like WeChat, where users can perform different transactions, such as paying rent or buying tickets, Meta also wants its users to enjoy such benefits at their fingertips while using WhatsApp. Moreover, Meta and Jio’s strategic partnership also aims to bolster the digital transformation in India while offering individuals plus firms an effective way to reach out to its users.

Meta And Jio History

In 2020, Facebook announced an investment of around $5.7 billion to obtain 9.99% of the Jio Platforms stake. According to Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries Chairman and MD:

“When Jio platforms and Meta announced our partnership in 2020, Mark and I shared a vision of bringing more people and businesses online and creating truly innovative solutions that will add convenience to the daily lives of every Indian.”

Furthermore, Reliance Industries’ 45th general meeting revealed that JioMart is set to partner with approximately one crore merchants plus is aiming to expand in about 7,500 towns along with 3 lakh villages in the coming 5 years. This step will also benefit Meta as its messaging platform will reach out to more customers and increase sales and revenue.
